LHU alumnus speaks to students about his role with the USADA
Lock Haven, PA (05/12/2022) — On April 27, Lock Haven University welcomed alumnus, Scott Davern '18, back on campus to speak about his role as the Elite Education Lead with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
During the presentation, which was attended by sport management students, student-athletes and students from the Athletic Training Club, Davern spoke about his journey to LHU and how he found his way to USADA.
A primary message Davern stressed to students was to remain open-minded to identify outside-the-box ways to utilize their degrees after graduating. In doing so, he highlighted how he was able to take his LHU health and physical education degree and applied it in a way that enabled him to transition to a career where he now works for an international organization with athletes all across the world.
"Most people with this degree go on to follow one career path, but there are so many things out there that you can do with a health and physical education degree besides becoming a gym teacher," Davern said.
"I am grateful that we were able to bring Scott in for a few reasons," said Hunter Confair, graduate assistant. "One, because he is an alumnus of the cross country and track and field team, and he was able to speak about his time here and what helped him as a student-athlete. Two, he was able to help answer questions that students didn't even know they had until he brought it up. And lastly, Davern was able to offer possible internship opportunities to students that were from three to four different majors."
